When people go to Google they are usually searching for something they need. Most of the time, those searches are in the form of questions, that is why the People Also Ask feature is so popular.

Well, what if I told you that there is a simple thing you can do to improve your organic traffic and that most people are not using?

FAQ Schema Markup

As you probably know there are many search snippets Google uses to highlight items or information on the search results page. The FAQ schema is one of them.

How does it work

When you add the FAQ schema markup to your website pages, there is a good chance that your organic results will include your FAQs like seen in these examples:

How it helps

The questions and answers that you provide with the FAQ schema is content that gets crawled by Google, so just by adding it, you are creating content that is highly relevant to the user intent, thus being good for SEO.

Also, the FAQ schema is shown below your organic results giving you more real estate on the Google search results page which helps increase your organic CTR:

As you can see in the example above, HubSpot should get more clicks than the other websites, for the only reason that they are taking up more screen space and also because they are answering relevant user questions right there on the search page.

You may ask yourself “why would I answer the question right there on the search page? Won’t that make them not click over to my website?”.

That is a fair question, but what you can do is only provide a short answer (about 160-200 characters) and give just enough to persuade users to click over to your website to get the full answer or more information.

How to do it

The first step is to decide which pages are going to have the FAQ schema. Not all pages should have it. Focus on those with content people may have questions about. Your feature/product pages are usually a good choice.

Once that is decided, write the questions and answers. Do anywhere between 2 and 4 FAQs.

Website implementation

If you are using WordPress you can easily do it with a plugin like Rank Math or with other FAQ schema plugins.

If you are not using WordPress, you can use a web-based FAQ Schema generator. Just add the Q&A, generate the code and add it to your page.

This is one of those easy-to-do things that can greatly improve your SEO results.
